Weeko Clip Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
Welcome to Weeko Clip (the "Software").
The Software is developed by Weeko Team ("we," "us," or "our"). It is a local clipboard history and favorites tool for macOS. We understand that clipboard content may contain personal information, keys, verification codes, file paths, work materials, or other sensitive content. For this reason, Weeko Clip is designed with a local-first approach:
Weeko Clip does not automatically upload your clipboard history, Favorites, search indexes, or local caches to Weeko Team servers. Limited information may leave your device when you open the feedback page, use App Store purchases, enable link metadata, share Apple diagnostics, or when disclosure is required by law.
This Privacy Policy explains how Weeko Clip handles data locally, which features may create network access, how system capabilities are used, and how you can manage and delete data.
I. Core Principles
1. User-initiated enablement
On first launch, Weeko Clip shows a feature guide explaining Recent, Favorites, search preview, and local storage. Clipboard history should not be forced on without the user understanding it. You can:
- Enable clipboard history;
- Choose to set it up later;
- Open the guide again from Settings or the menu bar;
- Pause, resume, or turn off clipboard history at any time.
After first enablement, Weeko Clip records only new copies that match your settings. It does not import clipboard content from before enablement. Content copied while recording is paused is not stored or added after recording resumes.
2. Local-first
Weeko Clip's main data is stored on your Mac by default, including:
- Clipboard history;
- Favorite records;
- Search indexes and type recognition results;
- Image preview caches;
- Link title and favicon caches;
- User settings and preferences;
- Ignored app list;
- Shortcut settings;
- Local license and feature state.
This data is not automatically sent to Weeko Team and is not directly accessible to us. Limited information may leave your device through the user-initiated and system features described below.
3. No cloud sync
Weeko Clip has no account system and currently does not provide cloud sync, automatic cloud backup, or cloud restore. The Software does not sync your clipboard history or Favorites through:
- iCloud;
- Dropbox;
- Google Drive;
- Weeko Team servers;
- Other third-party cloud storage services.
If your device is damaged, the system is reinstalled, the disk fails, or app data is deleted, local data may not be recoverable.
4. No advertising tracking
Weeko Clip does not use clipboard content for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking. Unless you actively submit feedback, logs, or diagnostic materials, we do not collect:
- Clipboard content;
- File or folder content;
- Private chat content;
- Detailed app operation behavior;
- Cross-app identifiers for advertising tracking.
II. Clipboard Data Processing
1. Supported record types
After you enable clipboard history, Weeko Clip reads the system clipboard according to your settings and saves eligible records locally. Supported display types currently include:
- Plain text;
- Code snippets, including JSON handled as a code subtype;
- Web links;
- Color values such as HEX, RGB/RGBA, and NSColor;
- Inline images such as screenshots or images copied from webpages or editors;
- File paths copied from Finder or other apps;
- Folder paths;
- File groups created by copying multiple files or folders at once.
This data is used only to provide Recent records, Favorites, search, filtering, preview, copy back to clipboard, menu bar quick copy, and local settings management.
2. Recent records and Favorites
Weeko Clip separates Recent records and Favorites:
- Recent records store everyday copy history;
- Favorites store frequently reused text, code, links, colors, images, and file paths for long-term use;
- Deleting a recent record does not affect Favorites;
- Clearing history clears only Recent records and keeps Favorites;
- Favorites can be exported and imported manually.
Favorite state may use a stable content identifier to avoid duplicate favorites. This identifier is used locally for deduplication and state checks, not for advertising, profiling, or cross-device tracking.
3. Menu bar visible content
Weeko Clip is a menu bar app. For faster access, the menu bar may show:
- Current Recent count;
- Favorites count;
- Up to four quick records from either Recent or Favorites;
- Actions such as pause, resume, clear Recent, and ignore the most recent source app.
This content comes from local data and is not uploaded to us because it is shown in the menu bar. However, during presentations, screen recordings, screen sharing, or public use, other people may see menu bar content. You can reduce this risk by pausing recording, clearing history, deleting favorites, ignoring selected apps, or disabling related features.
4. Files, folders, and file groups
For regular files, folders, and file groups copied from Finder or other apps, Weeko Clip stores local path references only. Image files are the exception: they keep the source path and may also keep a local cache of up to 64 MB per image for preview and reuse. The original file is not copied into app storage.
- File paths can be copied again to the clipboard or revealed in Finder;
- Folders may read basic status and limited first-level item counts;
- File groups record up to the first 100 item paths;
- If some file group items are missing, the Software may copy only available items;
- If an original file is moved, renamed, deleted, or its permissions change, the record may only keep the historical path and may no longer open.
Weeko Clip should not be treated as a file backup, sync, or recovery tool.
5. Image processing
Weeko Clip distinguishes inline clipboard images from image file paths:
- For inline images, the Software may cache image data locally for preview, save as, opening with macOS Preview, and writing back to the clipboard;
- For image files copied from Finder, the Software keeps the source path and may create a local cache of up to 64 MB per image; it does not copy the original image file into app storage.
If an image contains privacy, copyright, trade secrets, or other sensitive content, you are responsible for deciding whether to save, favorite, export, or delete it.
III. Search, Preview, and Copy Feedback
Weeko Clip builds local search indexes to match content, type, link titles, file names, paths, color values, code types, and related metadata. Search results may be ranked by weighted matches across titles, metadata, and content.
Current search does not include OCR, date filters, source-app filters, or saved searches. Source apps are used only for ignored-app controls and their names are not shown in history records.
To improve the experience, the Software may store or use the following local state:
- Recent and Favorites counts;
- Visible list state;
- Copy success state;
- Image copy type notices;
- Trackpad haptic feedback setting;
- Sound feedback setting;
- Whether the panel closes automatically after copying.
These states are used for local interaction and are not uploaded to our servers.
IV. Privacy Protection Features
Weeko Clip provides privacy protection settings, including:
- Automatically ignoring sensitive content;
- Ignoring keys and tokens such as API keys, access tokens, and private keys;
- Ignoring card numbers with basic validation;
- Ignoring verification codes only when contexts such as verification code or OTP appear;
- Ignoring suspected password fields such as password or equivalent labels;
- Setting maximum text length to avoid very long content slowing down the list;
- Temporarily pausing recording;
- Per-type recording toggles;
- Adding ignored apps;
- Clearing history;
- Clearing image caches and favicon caches.
These recognition and filtering features are auxiliary safeguards and are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. For highly sensitive content, we recommend pausing recording before copying or reviewing and deleting related records promptly after copying.
Ignored apps
Weeko Clip supports ignored apps so clipboard content from specified source apps is not recorded. You can add the most recent source app or manually select an app.
Source detection depends on the frontmost app and system capabilities at copy time. Cross-app, background, or automation scenarios may not always be identified accurately. Ignored app settings are stored locally.
V. Link Preview and Network Access
Weeko Clip can recognize links and display them as link records.
The "fetch link title and favicon" feature is off by default. When it is off, the Software does not actively visit copied links to fetch page titles or favicons.
If you enable this feature, Weeko Clip may access link URLs to fetch:
- Page titles;
- Website favicons;
- Basic display information.
These requests may let the target website or its service providers see ordinary network request information, such as IP address, request time, User-Agent, and network environment. Weeko Team does not control how target websites process data.
To reduce privacy risks, Weeko Clip tries to skip:
- Local addresses;
- Intranet addresses;
- Private network addresses;
- Links containing sensitive query parameters.
- Non-HTTP or non-HTTPS addresses.
Link previews may have retry intervals after failures and refresh intervals after success. Favicons are cached locally and unused favicons can be removed through cache cleanup. Automatic detection is not 100% accurate. If a link contains sensitive information, keep link preview off or delete the related record promptly.
VI. Favorite Backups
Weeko Clip Pro supports manually exporting Favorites as a ZIP file and importing Favorites from a ZIP file. The Free version currently does not provide Favorite ZIP import or export. Current entitlements are shown in the Software and on the App Store page.
Favorite backups may include:
- Favorite text;
- Code;
- Links;
- Colors;
- Inline image caches;
- Favicon caches;
- Local metadata related to Favorites.
For regular files, folders, and file groups, backups store path references only. Image-file entries may include a local cache of up to 64 MB per image; original files and folder contents are not copied.
Favorite backups do not provide automatic sync, automatic backup, or cloud restore. You are responsible for storing and protecting exported ZIP files. If a backup contains sensitive content, keep it safe and do not share it with unrelated persons. Before replacing Favorites during import, confirm whether you need to keep current Favorites.
VII. Purchases, Subscriptions, and License State
Weeko Clip may provide a Free version, annual Pro, lifetime Pro, and Restore Purchases. Purchases, refunds, subscription management, and payment information are handled by the Apple App Store and your Apple ID account.
We do not directly collect or process your card number, Apple ID password, or complete payment credentials. The Software uses StoreKit to request and verify transaction and current entitlement information provided by Apple so it can determine whether Pro features are available.
If server-side purchase validation or an account system is introduced in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy before launch and explain the related data processing.
VIII. System Capabilities
To provide its features, Weeko Clip may use the following macOS capabilities:
1. Clipboard access
Used to:
- Read content you copy to the system clipboard;
- Save clipboard history according to your settings;
- Copy selected history records back to the clipboard.
2. File and folder capabilities
Used to:
- Identify file and folder paths in the clipboard;
- Display basic information such as name, path, size, creation date, and modification date;
- Reveal related files or folders in Finder when you request it;
- Import or export Favorite backups.
Weeko Clip does not copy original files or folder contents simply because it records paths.
3. Network access
Used to:
- Fetch page titles and favicons after you enable link previews;
- Open links you confirm;
- Open the feedback page with the basic diagnostics described below;
- Process purchases, Restore Purchases, and license state through Apple App Store / StoreKit.
4. System integrations
Weeko Clip may provide menu bar, Dock icon visibility, launch at login, global shortcuts, opening images with macOS Preview, and revealing files in Finder. These capabilities improve local usage and are controlled by you in system or software settings.
IX. Feedback and Apple Diagnostics
When you open the in-app feedback page, Weeko Clip adds the following basic diagnostics to the page URL:
- Device model;
- macOS version;
- Weeko Clip app version;
- App language.
The URL does not include clipboard content, history, Favorites, search indexes, ignored apps, or preferences. Opening the page is an action you initiate. If you then contact support@weeko.net, you may choose to provide contact details, issue descriptions, log files, screenshots, attachments, or sample content. We use submitted information only for support and product improvement, not advertising or user profiling. Remove sensitive information before sending anything.
Apple-provided crash reports and diagnostics
If you enable sharing with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may provide crash reports or aggregated diagnostics through App Store Connect. Apple controls how this information is collected and de-identified. It may include device, operating system, app version, and crash context. We use it only to investigate stability and do not intentionally use it to collect clipboard content or history.
X. Data Retention and Deletion
Local data retention in Weeko Clip is affected by your settings, including history item limit, automatic cleanup time, maximum text length, duplicate handling, and manual cleanup actions.
You can manage or delete data by:
- Deleting individual records;
- Clearing Recent history;
- Deleting Favorites;
- Clearing preview caches;
- Removing unused image caches and favicon caches;
- Adjusting history limits or automatic cleanup time;
- Turning off clipboard history;
- Removing ignored app settings;
- Removing the Software and its sandboxed app data according to macOS instructions. Moving the app to the Trash alone may leave preferences or sandbox data on the Mac.
Weeko Clip does not provide cloud recovery. After local data is deleted, it may not be recoverable. Before deletion, confirm whether important Favorites should be retained or exported.
XI. Privacy Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy based on feature changes, legal requirements, App Store review requirements, or privacy protection standards.
The updated version will be published on the official website or in the Software. If an update involves material data processing changes, we will try to provide a more prominent notice.
Where applicable law requires notice or consent, we will provide it before material changes to data processing take effect.
